My time at Dreams Curaçao has come to an end and it’s time to move to the next resort. Last year I stayed one-night at Club Med Turkoise before moving to Beaches Turks and Caicos and I was bummed because there was so much more I wanted to do. It wasn’t the same at Dreams Curaçao. I was ready to move on after my one night. Not everyone is going to love a resort. It’s the unique combination of amenities, restaurants, service, and more that make a resort a good fit for someone. This resort was too tiny for me and I felt like there wasn’t enough to do and see. Luckily, I had only planned one-night here and it’s time to move to Sandals Royal Curaçao.
I’m traveling by myself, but I have friends going to the same conference. Two of them happened to be staying at the resort and the three of us plus another woman we found in the lobby take a taxi to the other side of the island. It’s a 45-minute drive. We went over the Queen Juliana Bridge which is one of the tallest bridges in the world at 185 ft above sea level. Also, I saw the Queen Emma Bridge which is a famous swing bridge. We saw where the cruise ships dock and an overhead of the city. It was a nice drive over normal roads. This country has a very European feel to it and it’s fitting that I visited here and the Netherlands in the same year.
We arrived at Sandals Royal Curaçao at around 10:45am. There was a room tour starting at 11am so we checked our bags with the bellman and went on the tour. We saw one of the beachfront rooms and a swim out room. Both are stunning. Next, we headed to Pieza for lunch. It’s a small buffet, but they also were making fresh pizza. I had a small salad and four-cheese pizza and it was all very delicious.
Yesterday I talked about a woman who spoke to me in another language. Today, I found out what language it was: Papiamento. This language is a blend of Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, English, African, Arawak Indian, and French. Two lovely Sandals employees walked me to me room which is at the far end of the resort. They told me about the resort such as the best places to eat and also about the country. One woman was from Colombia and the other from Curaçao. I learned how three languages are taught in school and most people know four languages here.
This resort is absolutely gorgeous and I love it. The staff has been very kind and welcoming. My room is perfection. It’s spacious with a King-sized bed, a mini-bar, and robes. I’m on the ground floor and have a lovely patio with a tranquility soaking tub. It’s a garden view room which can basically mean anything, but my view is completely of greenery.
We had a cocktail reception for the conference outside in the lawn. There was live music and dancing. I met the president of ASTA and the general manager for Sandals Royal Curaçao.
Dinner tonight was at Butch’s Chop House which was one of the restaurants recommended by the staff. I had an amazing salad, the surf and turf without the surf, and an amazing cocktail. I absolutely loved my meal. It was an early night for me! I went back to my room after dinner.
