It’s our first day at sea on Sun Princess and there is little on the agenda. My son has really wanted room service, so the morning starts with a phone call to order us food. I jump in the shower after the call and the food is already in the room when I’m done. They were so quick! My husband prefers the buffet, so he eats breakfast there while my son and I eat on the balcony.
We split after breakfast. My husband and son go to the pool while I go to a wine tasting. The Grapevine Wine Tasting is located in the main dining room and I’m the first to arrive. The ship time changed overnight so it feels earlier than it is. The wine tasting is at 11am, but it feels like 10am. Each table has five glasses of wine standing on a sheet of paper. Below each wine glass is the name of the wine we are trying. There are several servers and a sommelier who talks about each drink. We had a mix of white wine and red wines. I was surprised by how many people only tasted their wine. By this I mean they have a decent-sized pour, and they only take a sip of each one. I was not one of these people. Five tastings later and I’m ready for the relaxation part of the trip.

We spend most of the day bouncing between the pool, hot tub, and ice cream. My son really loves the self-serve ice cream onboard which has been your choice of vanilla, strawberry, or twist. He says it’s the best ice cream ever, but I’m pretty sure the self-serve part and using the cool machine has a bigger influence on the taste.

There are several small things onboard that I love. The towel situation in particular. There is free-flowing access to towels and they are big. No scanning cards to check them out and scanning cards to check them back in. It’s so civilized. Also, our room is serviced twice a day so if we take two showers in the day, we have fresh towels for the morning and the evening. Also, the cabin has body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. None of that multipurpose shampoo/conditioner/body wash business. The TV is also loaded with new movies and the wi-fi has been great. My son has had no problems watching Minecraft YouTube videos. This is a new ship, so the elevator situation is great. There are four sets of elevators on the ship, and they are almost all the smart kind that maximizes usage. We usually don’t have an issue getting one.
This evening is formal night, so we dress somewhat fancy for dinner. It’s another early night for us while the rest of the ship enjoys all the nightlife.
