Today we are docked on Heimaey Island, and we don’t have plans until this afternoon. We all take the opportunity to sleep in. It felt so good to sleep, but breakfast stops at 9:30am. Luckily, breakfast is available by room service until 11am. The TV displays the menu and then we order with the phone in the cabin. Room service is quick and the food is quality. I ordered the French toast and bacon, and my son had bacon and yogurt.

After breakfast, we leave the ship and roam around the town. There is a playground relatively close to the dock so we go there. The playground was interesting. There was a trampoline similar to what we’ve seen in Vancouver. They also had a ropes course to climb through. The cutest was the little springy animals and the ones here looked like puffins.

We all returned back to the ship and then my older son and I met in the lounge for our excursion. We’re going on ATVs! Our meeting time was 12:30 in the lounge, but we didn’t leave until at least 12:45. There are ten of us on this excursion and we were led through town to the ATV office. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the ship. We arrive at the office and sign a waiver and then we suit up. Body suits, gloves, and helmets are available in a variety of sizes. We get everything on and wait. It’s so hot with all my layers and the bodysuit. We find out our ATV tour doesn’t leave until 1:30pm so many of us remove layers while we wait. I ended up leaving my raincoat and sweatshirt behind because it was too much with the bodysuit. Soon enough, it’s 1:30pm and we walk a couple minutes to the ATVs. The instructor gives us a crash course on operating them and then we’re on our way. We ride through the town and then up the mountain. There are two people per ATV so five ATVs total. We are second in line and have to stop several times because the three ATVs behind us can’t keep up. Soon we enter rougher terrain. The area we are driving through used to be ocean, but when the volcano near us last exploded, it made this area. If I had to guess how the moon would look like, it would be like this. We stop at the top for pictures and by this time it is pouring down rain. The bodysuits kept us dry for the light rain, but as it becomes heavy, we are soaked through. It is cold and the impact of the rain stings. I was a passenger the whole time and I couldn’t see anything on the way back. My helmet shield was completely fogged up. It was a cool experience but would have been better on a nicer day.
We go to the yacht club when we return to the ship to warm up. I get a hot chocolate and eat a small salad. Then, it’s to the room for a hot shower.
Tonight is the cocktail party that I’m hosting. I get ready for the event and arrive early to greet guests. We had about half the group show up for the event and it’s nice to meet some of the group. They’re a nice group of people and there are even three from my Alma mater.

Dinner tonight is late and at Amphora. I get the quinoa salad, beef Wellington, and a champagne dessert. The dessert was my favorite. It was white mousse consistency and tasted like champagne. The texture was so smooth. I hope they have something like this again!
