Nuevo Nayarit, Mexico

We’re spending some quality time with family this week in Mexico! Brian, my son, and I are here with my parents, aunt, and uncle. We are staying at Villa del Palmar Flamingos Beach Resort which is down the road from my aunt and uncle’s place. The resort is the perfect size with every room near the pool and beach. We are staying in a 2-bedroom suite that includes two bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a living room, full kitchen, and large balcony. It’s a very comfortable size for the five of us.

My last visit to Nuevo Nayarit was about fifteen years ago when the town went by the name of Nuevo Vallarta. We stayed in Puerto Vallarta on that visit, but visited this area to visit other family members. One of the things that stuck out was how rough the ocean was in both Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Nayarit. It wasn’t really swimmable. This trip is much different and the beach is perfect! The ocean water is warm, but still refreshing and the beaches are all free of sargassum. The sand is courser and darker than in the Caribbean, but still very nice. The waves are the perfect size for boogie boarding. My son absolutely loves this beach! The sand is perfect for digging and building sand castles and the waves are the perfect amount of roughness for my son. He loves the sensation of waves crashing on him! The last couples of days we’ve bounced back from the beach to the pool.

The pools are fabulous at this resort. The top pool is zero-entry and perfect for children. It gets deeper as you move inward and eventually you get to a part with stairs that go down. It’s engineered perfectly. The stairs are wet with a soft cascade of water going from the pool down to a splash pad area. This area has water fountains shooting upwards and it’s the perfect little splash park for young kids. Go down more steps and there is another pool. All the pools overlook the ocean.

This resort has the option of being all-inclusive or the European plan. We are on the European plan. Our basecamp the last couple of days have been along the pool. Waiters come by frequently to take food and drink orders which has been fabulous! There is also a taco restaurant near the pool and you can visit the restaurant in your wet bathing suit which is a rare thing to find at resorts. Overall, it’s a very casual place and dressing up is not the norm including for dinner. I love that!
