Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

We spent the afternoon and evening in old town of Puerto Vallarta! My uncle rented a small SUV that fits seven and we piled in to drive to Puerto Vallarta. My parents and I went on a short ride to explore the area near our hotel and the whole ride the car would intermittently beep seeming to indicate someone didn’t have their seatbelt on. We all did. This car trip was much longer and took about 45-minutes to go from our hotel to Puerto Vallarta. The beeping continued on this journey too. It’s a brand new Chevrolet and seems to have a loose connection.

Old town consists of cobblestone roads and the cacophony of complaints was mounting as we neared our destination. My son would say, “Are we there yet?” Brian and my dad who were both in the very back had equal amounts of things to say. The bumps in the road along with sitting in the back made a unique vibration that reverberated in the eardrum. It was driving my dad mad. Brian, who doesn’t usually get carsick, “Are we there yet? I’m going to puke soon.” The parking deck seemed to be at the end of the world, but we made it!

This is the touristy area of town and the walkway along the beach is filled with vendors. There are also several large sculptures to admire as you walk. We took a leisurely stroll admiring the coastline and mountain backdrop and then made the return journey.

Dinner tonight was at Vitea Oceanfront Bistro. The owners of this restaurant are a couple. The wife is Mexican and the husband is German and they serve Mediterranean food. I started the meal with a freshly made Mango Margarita and bread service. The basket had two types of bread: rye and herb rolls. The herb rolls were far superior to the rye bread. I had the chicken special as my meal which was chicken stuffed with asparagus with an orange and wine sauce. It also came with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and peas. It was delicious and huge! I only ate half and brought the other half back to the resort. My son was happy with his chicken and pesto with a side of French fries.

Our resort was having their Mexican Fiesta when returned. It’s free for guests who are members here, but has an additional cost for non-members of roughly $40 per person. Our balcony overlooks the area where this was happening. We enjoyed listening to mariachi music and watching kids try to break a piñata!
