We are off on an adventure in Skagway today, but first breakfast. We both prefer the main dining room for breakfast. I would much rather have someone serve me than deal with the crowds at Oceanview Cafe. The buffet is the more popular option which means service at the main dining room is phenomenal. There are so many servers here for so few people. It’s great, but don’t tell too many people my breakfast secret. I order a waffle with bacon. I ask the server if it’s possible to get fresh strawberries or banana for my waffle. He says yes and I’m even more surprised when he comes back with a bowl of berries and a bowl of cut bananas. These are perfect! Neither one is on the menu so sometimes you just have to ask.

There is a strange message listed about today. Apparently, the gangway is going to move throughout the day because of the tides. This means that it will close for about fifteen minutes when they have to move it. The first move will be right about the time we need to get off so we plan accordingly and get off the ship much earlier than we need to. We booked our shore excursion outside of the cruise line so we need to meet our tour off the ship. The meeting location is very close to the ship. It’s a short 3-minute walk.

Today’s excursion is with Ocean Raft Alaska and we are going out on a fun raft! We meet outside the public bathrooms which are very nice by the way. We sign waiver forms and then walk across the street to the bus. I am not really sure why they have a bus because it drives for about 5-minutes to take us to our destination. It is close enough to walk. We drive toward the dock and there is a small shed-like “hanger” with benches. We all sit-down and the captain talks to us about what to bring and what to pack in their storage units. Basically, everything but my camera, phone, and glasses gets put into storage. This includes my little backpack and my coat. Several people come out of a door like a fashion show with orange jumpsuits and they hand them out. We are instructed to take our shoes off first and then to step into it. Then, pull it up halfway and put our shoes back on and finally to pull it up and zip it. This fun jumpsuit is also our floatation device. It feels like a winter coat and will keep us dry and warm out on the water.

We walk to the boat. The front of the boat has more movement and is the more desired location. The back of the boat is better for anyone with motion sickness. We go to the back. The seats are pretty much like saddles. You kick your feet over and then there is a small silver bar in front to hold onto. It looks kind of like you are on one of those bucking broncos. My feet don’t touch the ground when I am seated, but there are little things that can fold down for feet for those that are vertically challenged.
It’s another gorgeous day in Alaska! The water is super calm, so our captain does donuts to give us some waves to hop over. It’s high energy and fun! We also have a naturalist onboard and between jumping waves we visit the shoreline to learn about the flora and creatures we see. We see several bald eagles and a few seals on our journey. We also see other birds and lots of waterfalls. This has been an amazing excursion! 100% recommend this for anyone who wants a little adventure on their Alaska trip.
